Introduce your self. Tell us about your self and a little about your business. We will get more in detail in the individual questions.
Hey! 👋 I'm Courtney! I'm from Pleasant Grove, Utah and have my Master Esthetics license. I've been married to the love of my life for 6 years and have two beautiful kids - Cruz (4) and Alivia (2) and another little girl coming very soon!
What sparked your interest in lashing and how long have you been in the lash industry?
I've been in the lash industry for almost 4 years coming up this fall! Honestly, I learned lashes while I was in esthetics school and was totally frustrated with how long they took and how I couldn't get them perfect (hello perfectionist!). As time went on I got more patient and opportunities opened up that made me realize this was what I was supposed to be doing. I've learned to love the detailed work and creative outlet it has given me as well as the flexibility to still be a mom!
What has been some of the best advice you have received since starting your business?
To never give up and to keep practicing and keep trying even if I felt discouraged.
What does your daily routine look like?
I'm a person that feels very comfortable with a scheduled routine or plan for the day but I've learned that as a mom that doesn't always happen. Most days seem like chaos trying to balance mom/wife duties and working. My little human alarm clocks usually wake me up in the early morning and our day starts right away with breakfast and trying to wrestle them to get ready. No matter if it's a day I work or not we are mostly gone from home. Either I'm working and the kiddos are playing at my aunts house or we are spending the day running errands, doing chores, trying to survive with the least amount of tantrums possible. 😅 I always try my best to get a healthy dinner on the table at the end of the day. I'm so lucky to have such an awesome partner that comes home from work and gives me time to myself to decompress and take some time for me whether it's the gym or even just being able to fold laundry in silence! After we put the kids down we usually spend the rest of the night trying to relax and spend time together either if it's watching our show or laying in bed talking and laughing.
What is something that you do, just for you?
I'm a huge advocate for self care. The things I do for myself that make me feel my best mentally and physically are exercise and eating well. Sounds cliche, I know! But there really is nothing that helps me release stress and boost my confidence more than going to the gym and lifting some weights. When I'm eating well and taking care of my body I feel energized and able to conquer anything!
What was one of your hardest life lessons, and how did you learn/grow from it?
I had a life experience last year that left me feeling broken, unloved and alone. Im a true believer that everything happens for a reason and all trials are meant to help us grow into the people we are meant to be. This particular experience gave me the chance to start from the bottom and learn to love myself and accept myself for who I am. To not worry about what people thought of me and to just try my best and let that be enough. I learned that I am worthy of love and it started with loving myself.
Do you have any tips for those in the industry looking to grow?
My best advice isn't for business growth but for personal growth in the industry which I feel like in turn can grow your business! Quality over quantity ALWAYS. It's better to perfect your art and let the timing follow than to hurry through a client and expect the quality to improve later. This goes for your clientele as well, don't sell yourself short. Know your worth and what you deserve. Set expectations for you clients from the beginning and don't let anyone bully you into something you don't want to do. The good clients will come and those who aren't willing to meet your standards or try to push your limits are not worth your time. There is always someone better who can replace them!
