Managing Client Expectations
When managing client expectations consultation is key. It is important to understand what the client’s desired look is. A few questions to consider would be: Are they getting eyelash extensions for an event or for every day wear? Do they prefer simple or dramatic? Do they curl their eyelashes? Do they wear glasses? Asking questions will give you an understanding of what the client is expecting. It is our responsibility to manage these expectations honestly. An assessment of the client’s natural lashes will allow you to make an informed decision about how much the lashes can support. It is essential to be on the same page before the service begins. Be honest with the client if their assessment does not allow their expectations to be met while also being clear about what options they do have.
Other things to consider when managing client expectations include the client’s lifestyle and budget. Reiterate your previously discussed prices before the appointment to avoid any miscommunication. If your prices vary between classic and volume make your client aware of the differences before deciding on a lash type. A client’s lifestyle can directly effect their retention. A more active client or a client that wears extra makeup may experience different retention than a client who doesn’t. Again, asking questions will help to manage these expectations. There are questions to ask regarding lifestyle such as, Do you take regular medication, do you have allergies, what type of skin routine do you use, are you pregnant, or how active are you? As lash artists we cannot guarantee their lash retention will always be the same between fills, but asking questions, educating your client on lash cycles, and recommending after care will help to manage client expectations. You know what they say, “It never hurts to ask.” Happy lashing!
