name is Whitney O’Neal, soon to be Whitney Mutaguchi. I am engaged to my best friend and biggest support system ever. I have a daughter, Mila, who is 7 years old. They are my world and push me to do and be better in all aspects of my life. We love to travel and explore new places together.
I have been in the beauty industry for 7 years now and I absolutely love it! My passions are lashes and microblading. I initially loved lashes because I wanted to make everyone feel as pretty as I felt when I got my lashes done. I have built up a clientele for lashes and no longer have room for new lash clients. But if you need a fresh set of brows, I am your girl!
If I had to give someone advice for just starting out in the beauty industry I would have to start with:
Write down your goals, dreams and aspirations, work-related or not. Manifest your dreams and they will become your reality with hard work and determination. I tell this to my daughter daily to instill it in her young.
Read inspiring books, be positive and HUSTLE! We have all had those days where we want to chuck our tweezers or tools at the freaking wall. I get it, I have been there more times than I can count. Go home, breathe, meditate, take a bath or go rage out at the gym. Recollect yourself, grab a pen and paper, and write down five to ten things that you did great that day. “I made the best 5d fan ever,” or whatever it is, be nice to yourself and give credit where credit is due. You can learn the best things from days that are the hardest.
CHARGE WHAT YOU ARE WORTH GIRLFRIEND/BOYFRIEND! Yes, I am screaming that at the top of my lungs for everyone to hear. If you feel like you are not charging what you are worth, your heart won’t be in it and from my experience, you won’t be doing your best work. If you’re still learning, that’s great, take people at a discounted rate for a limited amount of days. Do not get stuck at that price point, though. You don’t want the clients who are always looking for the best deal or cheapest price. They aren’t loyal and most likely will come crawling back to you after they get a botched job by someone who is not properly trained. You are worth every damn penny.
Having my own business has been one of the greatest blessings I have ever had in my life. I have been a single mom since my daughter was 2 years old. It has allowed me to make my own schedule and work from home for several years. I am able to wake up every morning and be with my daughter, take her to school, get a light workout in then head to work. Most days I am off in time to pick my daughter up from school. I love being able to do that and spend the nights hanging out with my little family.
Keep reaching for the stars! We are all amazing and have so much to offer this amazing industry! Never stop learning and educating yourself. As Maya Angelou says, “Do your best until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”
